The Rocks

The Gadigal people had populated Talla wo la dah, now known as the Rocks, for thousands of years prior to the arrival on the first colonial fleet in 1788.

While violence and disease wiped out about 80% of the Gadigal people, the new settlers began to build in the area. Using the natural sandstone they first settled in this area, building structures, some of which remain today.

Today this popular destination is a bustling area of commerce. We visited the Market in the pouring rain, happy to take in the colourful sights, sounds of local musicians and delicious aromas emanating from the various eateries. Despite the rain, the area attracted many, many people today.
